When you go to a doctor, doctor prescribes long term use of anti-depressants when there are several natural methods available to get rid of depression. Your physician in all likelihood, will not tell you about the natural and safe methods. Anti-depressants will treat you but will not give you happiness. If you are relying on the medicines, you can go for homoeopathy or Ayurveda, which does not have any side effects. Although they might take some time to show results. But, there are methods other than relying on medicines which gives you true happiness. These methods will help you to find your innerself. Once you enquire about yourself and make up your mind to treat himself, the same day you will realise the change. To have faith in himself and methods you are adopting is very important. It's your mind, you can mould it as you want, but only when you have strong belief. Yoga and meditation is one such method which can not only treat you, but will transform your life over time. It will teach you to trust that life is good whether or not things are going well. Practicing yoga and meditation will alter your inner landscape in many ways.

Yoga and meditation (best therapy to treat depression)

According to ancient yoga texts, there are three types of energy that manifest as behaviour patterns: Rajas (characterized as dynamic and excitable); Tamas (by inertia ,cloth, fear or confusion) and sattva (as pure beingness and lucidity, a state of equilibrium). Practicing yogaic asanas helps to counter depression because it reduces stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, inducing what is known as the relaxation response. Practicing yogaic Kriya or asana does not only improve your poses, they give your busy mind something to focus on and therefore keep you in the present moment. They improve your concentration level and hormonal balance. They simultaneously provide relief to the body and mind.

One cannot handle The mind from the level of the mind. It is for the reason that although counseling or psychiatry seems to help in the beginning, it is not able to provide a complete cure in the longer term. This is where knowing the secret of breath can really transform lives. Breathing techniques like Sudarshan Kriya stabilize your life force and consequently the mind. The inner dimension unvield by the practice of meditation deeply enriches us and its impact slowly spills over to all aspects of life. As prana (the soul) rises in the body one starts to feel a transformation as direct experience. One starts becoming happier, creative and more in command of their mind and emotions. A popular quote is: life is a combination of happiness and pain. pain is inevitable but suffering is optional.

Lastly, happiness does not come by a talent or skills that you develop. Unless you realise who you are, what the nature of consciousness is through your own introspection, happiness remains a far fetched reality. The spirit of self enquiry in the true sense which leads to meditation is absolutely essential in the quest for happiness. The 6th century Indian philosopher and thinker Adi Shankaracharya has said that it is dispassion towards the ephemeral and connection with the eternal that brings true joy.

Caution: Always practice yoga and meditation with an expert advice.
