India's education system lacks proper content and methods of teaching

Basic school education is most important as we all know. It is the basic building block of life. School is a place where child spend a good part of his or her life learning the basics. At this age and stage, education laid the foundation Stones in building the personality of a child. A child learn by gaining experience and watching others activities. The environment provided to the child at home and at school plays an important role in the overall development of the child.

In India a large population even today lives in villages. These villages does not have enough exposure to the other world's modern developments, techniques and tools. People still struggling to fulfill their daily basic requirements of life. About 30% of the village population is illiterate. They are incapable of providing the required education and environment to their children. They are unaware of the importance of education in life and to the fact that education can solve many of the problems of their life.

The central and state governments are running many programs for school education. Government is spending a good amount of budget every year on students books, copies, dress, mid day meals and school infrastructure. Every village in India has basic learning schools. Trained teachers has been appointed. Government in recent years is successful in bringing children to the schools. The rate of school dropout has been reduced significantly in recent years. So, "Where we are lacking?" is the major question in concern.

Reports show that India is producing unskilled labour. Our engineers and technicians are not enough skilled and are unaware of the modern technological developments. Indian youths are unskilled to work in multinational companies and big business houses.

The problem starts with the basic school education system. The basics needs to be correct and strong. Educational content in our schools are not technically correct, less informative and inadequate. Course structure and content is outdated. We force the students to cram the concepts rather than try to make them understand and grasp it naturally. The main objective of education in India is not to get knowledge but to pass examination, which may result in a good job and handsome salary.

Another area where we have to focus on is the methods of teaching and teaching aids. Developed countries has provided all the modern teaching aids to their students from the lower classes to the higher studies. But here in India, we don't have enough infrastructure, modern teaching aids and techniques to assist both teachers and students. To educate our children and youths to the modern developments that are happening in different areas, we need to redesign our course content, follow a new and improved approach to methods of teaching and provide modern day teaching aids. Only then, we can compete with the other world.
